OPENING KEYNOTE Speaker

Justin "Hasard" Lee – Former U.S. Air Force Fighter Pilot and best selling author

Hasard is a decorated U.S. Air Force fighter pilot who led pilots into combat and flew over 80 missions. He’s the only pilot to fly jets from two squadrons into combat on the same day, providing critical support to troops under fire. He was then hand-picked to fly the F-35―the most advanced fighter aircraft―which was still in development at the time.

During his last role on active duty, Hasard became the chief of Training Systems for the largest training base in the world, leading the development of AI technology and teaching methods to train future fighter pilots.

As a sought-after expert on leadership and decision-making, Hasard equips organizations to navigate change and uncertainty. He partners with organizations from Fortune 500 leaders like Meta, Google, and Microsoft to innovative startups, transforming how they approach strategy, culture, and innovation through lessons forged in the cockpit.

GENERAL SESSION SPEAKER

Mark McMullen – Vice President of Policy & Research, Common Sense Institute

Mark McMullen brings a wealth of expertise to CSI, having served as the longest-tenured chief economist for the State of Oregon under three governors. Serving under a fourth governor as interim chief economist his first year, Mark accumulated 14 years of invaluable experience in the governor’s office. Before joining CSI, Mark held prominent roles, including director of consulting at Moody’s Analytics and researcher at the Congressional Budget Office. He earned his undergraduate degree from Pomona College and completed his graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mark’s dedication to Oregon extends beyond his professional career. He chaired the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors and contributed to task forces addressing critical issues such as wildfires, COVID response, and student success. Additionally, he actively participated in various economic organizations, including the Workforce and Talent Development Board, Oregon Council of Economic Education, Oregon Government Finance Officers Association, and Oregon Banker’s Association.

With strong ties to Oregon’s heritage, Mark’s family roots in farming and timber work have shaped his understanding of the state’s economic landscape. Alongside his professional accomplishments, Mark finds joy in his 27-year marriage and cherishes time spent with his three adult children.

Breakout Session 2: Building Hope: Leadership’s Role in Tackling Mental Health and Suicide in Construction

The construction industry faces a suicide rate nearly four times the national average. This session examines substance use disorder and mental health through a leadership lens, highlighting the business impacts of unaddressed mental health challenges. Grounded in real job site experiences following critical incidents, Rich Jones from BuildWell Health brings firsthand insight into how leadership can respond, support, and lead cultural change. Attendees will leave with eye-opening industry statistics, a deeper understanding of how these issues impact workforce safety and productivity, and practical resources to help construction companies build healthier, more resilient teams.

Rich Jones MA, MBA, LCAS, CCS, CEAP, SAP, e-EMDR, Chief Clinical officer, Build Well Health

Rich is recognized nationally as a subject matter expert on substance use disorder (SUD) and health care and recovery integration. He has testified to U.S. Congress on the topic and participated in widespread speaking engagements and technical consultations across the country. As CEO of the award-winning recovery support organization FAVOR Greenville—and as someone who is in recovery himself—Rich has helped over 8,000 families suffering from SUD with his messages of hope and positivity. His lectures are highly sought after, and his keen expertise and knowledge about recovery are the basis for Youturn Health’s creation.

As a senior health care and non-profit executive and director since 2002, Rich has developed specialized skills across multiple domains, including mental health services, substance use disorder treatment, and recovery support services. Rich has logged over 40,000 coaching hours and is a Licensed Clinical SUD Specialist (“LCAS”), DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), Certified Clinical Supervisor (“CCS”), Co-Occurring Disorder Professional (“CCDP”), Certified Employee Assistance Professional (“CEAP”), Certified ARISE Interventionist (“CAI”), and an EMDR Certified Trauma Therapist.

Breakout Session 8: Growth Strategies Workshop

For many businesses, the main approach to growth is more marketing and/or more sales. The problem? These strategies fall flat when there is nothing remarkable to talk about. Being better, faster, or cheaper than the competition is not a winning proposition—especially as channels get more crowded and it’s difficult to stand out.

In this game, businesses end up trapped in an endless cycle of marginal gains, fighting for inches in an increasingly crowded marketplace. But what if you stood out from the competition because you have created something unique in your market or category?

In this workshop, we’ll focus on remarkability and creation as the drivers for growth. We’ll explore ways to come up with a strategic positioning that takes into account internal capacities and the external realities that impact your business.

Jeff is passionate about cultivating authenticity in the work process and creating environments where people can show up as their full selves. He believes that bringing diverse perspectives together is key to launching successful business endeavors. His creative quest draws from principles of neuroscience and psychology, namely, knowing how and why people react to stimuli helps him articulate how to create better experiences for people. Jeff believes that building human-centric businesses is the future because when we embrace our full humanity, we can build better companies and teams.
