The 2023 Summer Convention presented by SAIF was a year for the books! With fantastic speakers, breakout sessions, networking events, and special guests, it was an event to remember! Check out this quick overview of the event.

Photo Policy:

Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations must be received in writing (email or mail) and received by July 19, 2024. A full refund less a $50 processing fee will be accepted if written cancellation is received prior to the deadline date. No refunds will be processed if a written cancellation is received after the deadline, however, substitutes will always be accepted.

Breakout Session 1: What Comes Next: Implementation of New Bills and Beyond

Join us for a roundtable discussion on the implementation of bills that passed this year. In particular, we will be diving into the new wage theft liability law and the mandate for prevailing wage on offsite custom manufacturing. We will also open the floor for discussing other policies of interest.

Breakout Session 2: Building Hope: Leadership’s Role in Tackling Mental Health and Suicide in Construction

The construction industry faces a suicide rate nearly four times the national average. This session examines substance use disorder and mental health through a leadership lens, highlighting the business impacts of unaddressed mental health challenges. Grounded in real job site experiences following critical incidents, Rich Jones from BuildWell Health brings firsthand insight into how leadership can respond, support, and lead cultural change. Attendees will leave with eye-opening industry statistics, a deeper understanding of how these issues impact workforce safety and productivity, and practical resources to help construction companies build healthier, more resilient teams.

Rich is recognized nationally as a subject matter expert on substance use disorder (SUD) and health care and recovery integration. He has testified to U.S. Congress on the topic and participated in widespread speaking engagements and technical consultations across the country. As CEO of the award-winning recovery support organization FAVOR Greenville—and as someone who is in recovery himself—Rich has helped over 8,000 families suffering from SUD with his messages of hope and positivity. His lectures are highly sought after, and his keen expertise and knowledge about recovery are the basis for Youturn Health’s creation.

As a senior health care and non-profit executive and director since 2002, Rich has developed specialized skills across multiple domains, including mental health services, substance use disorder treatment, and recovery support services. Rich has logged over 40,000 coaching hours and is a Licensed Clinical SUD Specialist (“LCAS”), DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), Certified Clinical Supervisor (“CCS”), Co-Occurring Disorder Professional (“CCDP”), Certified Employee Assistance Professional (“CEAP”), Certified ARISE Interventionist (“CAI”), and an EMDR Certified Trauma Therapist.

Breakout Session 3: Cyber Insurance for Contractors

Contractors often handle financial transactions, including wiring money to third parties. These activities can make them prime targets for cybercriminals to use tactics like phishing and social engineering. Cyber insurance can help with these issues, and also cover fraudulent transfers and other cyber crimes. During this session, we will cover safeguarding sensitive information and the importance of business continuity, third-party liability and reputation management.

Drew has represented multiple Fortune 500 companies and key industry sectors ranging from commercial construction, to hospitals, Oregon public universities, broadcast and telecommunications companies, automakers, and various nonprofit industry associations

Drew received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and his law degree from Lewis & Clark. He has been a member of the Oregon State Bar since 1999.

Zach will walk through live prompting examples tailored to construction workflows, including project communication, reporting, and admin tasks.

The Interstate Bridge Replacement program team will be presenting information designed for contractors, consultants, suppliers, and other construction industry professionals to learn about upcoming opportunities with the Interstate Bridge Replacement (IBR) Program.
