Spotlight on SAIF

As a benefit of our yearly Partner Program, we write a spotlight blog for each member partner company. To learn more about our partners, we ask that they complete a list of questions.

Who is SAIF?

SAIF is Oregon’s not-for-profit workers’ compensation insurance company. Since 1914, we’ve been taking care of injured workers, helping people get back to work, and keeping rates low by focusing on workplace safety. Together with our partners, we strive to make Oregon the safest and healthiest place to work.

What are your mission and goals?

We’re a not-for-profit company owned by the state, so our mission is pretty unique: “to make insurance available to as many Oregon employers as inexpensively as may be consistent with the overall integrity of the Industrial Accident Fund… and sound principles of insurance.”

Our vision is also distinctive: to make Oregon the safest and healthiest place to work.

What is your key focus this year?

Along with making workers’ compensation affordable and accessible, the safety and health of Oregonians is always a key focus. Our Safe and Healthy Workplace Center provides leadership, resources, and support for our policyholders’ safety and health efforts. The center also houses a safety advancement and innovation team that focuses on identifying new programs and projects to enhance safety and health cultures among our policyholders. Finally, we partner with other organizations to drive innovation and strengthen our efforts to make Oregon the safest and healthiest place to work.

Why do you find your relationship with AGC valuable?

It’s extremely valuable to us because it provides an ideal opportunity to partner with a committed organization that shares our values about workplace safety and other aspects of workers’ comp. And like SAIF, AGC is focused on serving both workers and employers.

It’s no secret that construction workers suffer on-the-job injuries at a higher rate than average, and that those injuries are often severe. We believe the combined expertise of AGC and SAIF helps get us closer to the goal of zero workplace injuries.

If someone was to take away one important fact about SAIF, what would you want it be?

Ask SAIF employees why they’re so passionate and dedicated, and they’ll tell you it’s because of our unique mission and vision—and because their co-workers are just as passionate.
