Did You Know…

  • There are over 46,000 registered construction businesses throughout Oregon that employ more than 100,000 workers and contribute $6.5 billion to the state GDP. The majority of the 33,544 pieces of equipment used within the industry are diesel-powered.
  • Total farm sales in 2007 topped $5 billion for the first time. Production of more than 220 different commodities such as dairy, greenhouse products, hay and strawberries helped to employ over 150,000. Over 27 million gallons of diesel fuel was used within the industry.
  • Forests cover nearly 50 percent of the state and are a key resource that makes Oregon the leading lumber producer in the country. This sector, which depends on diesel-powered equipment, supports 190,000 jobs and accounts for about 11 percent of the state’s economic output.
