AGC Supports Vocational Education Funding Expansion

AGC supports Senate Bill 498 to continue to strengthen and expand state funding for vocational education programs. The bill that will accomplish this, Senate Bill 498, was approved unanimously by the Senate Education and Workforce Committee yesterday afternoon. This bill enjoys unprecedented support including all but a handful of legislators, Republicans and Democrats alike. AGC’s 2009 president, Andrew Beyer, was among a long line of supporters testifying on this bill. He stated that businesses and our industry “need capable people, who know how to work, who want to work, and who want to contribute to a successful business.” Beyer also underscored the longstanding and substantial financial support AGC and individual contractors have provided to programs like ACE, Portland Youth Builders, and Northwest Construction College.
