Applied Math Works!

Benson High School at Dignity VillageBenson Polytechnic High School students in Tech Geometry designed and built a cabin-like structure for Portland’s Dignity Village. It was delivered on June 10 with a brief ceremony. The ninth grade math class calculated the sizes, drew the plans, and then built the pink house for one of the residents at the Village, and along the way learned lessons about math and construction, and also about working together and helping their community. The class is a true example of how applied math works! The instructor, Amy Slaughter, said some of her students increased 2–3 years in math due to the application of theory to reality.
