AGCA Announces Changes to Council Structure

Important Changes to AGC of America Specialty Contractors Council and Service & Supply Council Structure

agcaRevisions to the AGC of America Bylaws adopted at the 2013 Annual Convention included several changes to the structure of both the AGCA Specialty Contractors Council (SCC) and the AGCA Service & Supply Council (SSC). These changes include the following:

  • The respective SCC and SSC Executive Committees are now called “Steering Committees.” The make-up is the same with a chair, vice chair, immediate past chair, and five at-large members.
  • The AGCA “big” board is no longer called the Board of Directors, but is now called a Board of Governors. Only the SCC and SSC chair and vice chair serve on the new Board of Governors (“big” board). In the past all eight members of the SCC Executive Committee and SSC Executive Committee served on the “big” board. Specialty contractor members and service & supply members can be appointed to the “big” board in other ways (e.g. chair a committee or a forum, serve as presidents or chairs of chapters, be appointed by the AGCA president to one or more of the ten seats that the president has the power to fill).
  • There will no longer be chapter nominations and appointments of members to the SCC and the SSC. In the past AGCA staff would send out a call for member nominations to the chapters for these two councils. This nominations process and related paperwork is now eliminated. Now, all AGC specialty contractor members and service & supply members in good standing will automatically be added as members of their respective councils unless the member asks to be removed from their council. This is similar to how the four Occupational Divisions work.

SCC and SSC members have other definitions and rights within the AGCA Bylaws, but the above points only highlight the significant changes that took effect following the March 2013 Bylaws revision approved by the AGCA Board.

If you have any questions, please contact Sylvester Giustino about the SCC and Rick Brown about the SSC.
