Construction Industry Facing Workforce Shortage

The construction industry in Oregon and SW Washington is feeling the effects of a shrinking pool of available workers. The number of construction projects is steadily increasing, yet qualified workers are getting more difficult to find…and it will only get worse. The average age of construction workers is increasing, and the number of workers that will be needed in the next decade far outpaces the number of workers currently making their way through apprentice and trades programs. Added to that fact is that career and technical education programs in schools have nearly disappeared and students are being pushed to the college track, making the shortage of future workers even more daunting.
