AGC Construction Contractors Board Task Force Proposal

AGC, in the wake of a series of articles on construction defects, the establishment of the Construction Claims Task Force by the legislature, and the loss of legislation dealing with construction liability in the 2005 Legislature, appointed a task force to examine the issues with construction defects, to survey the political landscape and see what was coming out of the task force, and look at ways to prepare for the 2007 session.

The task force focused on separating commercial and residential construction licenses at the Construction Contractors Board as the best way to address the issues that are specific to commercial construction contractors. The task force recognizes that the issues facing residential contractors are different, particularly given that they work directly with consumers, whereas commercial contractors are in a business-to-business environment.

AGC is seeking to raise the standard of practice in the commercial construction industry, while creating clear lines between commercial and residential construction and the regulations that apply to the two sectors.
