What is a Young Constructor?
The Young Constructors Forum (YCF) is a group of
construction professionals that meet to exchange ideas and grow
relationships to bring together all elements of the industry –
architects, engineers, general contractors, specialty contractors, and
associated businesses and organizations – to improve communications and
build a more united construction industry. It provides an opportunity to
share ideas about daily issues the construction industry faces and
industry knowledge to meet the challenges ahead…and it does this in a
relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The YCF meets monthly throughout the year, and focuses
on improving the construction community through education, community
service, networking, and a healthy dose of fun.
Reinvigorating YCF
The Oregon-Columbia Chapter of the YCF has had many
accomplishments in the five years of its existence. We are among the
most active chapters in the country and were proud to host the AGCA
National Spring Working Weekend in June 2002. But as YCF has matured as
a concept, we noted a trend downward in attendance – particularly for
the education sessions. The core group held a series of ad-hoc meetings
to discuss how we can reinvigorate YCF, and to develop new initiatives
to ensure its success over the long term. We identified a few areas to
focus on in the future, including:
-
Build a stronger connection between YCF, general AGC
membership, and the board of directors
-
Outreach to other similar groups within affiliated
organizations such as AIA, CECO, and the AGC student chapter at Oregon
State University
-
Develop a specific leadership track within YCF
-
Watch for these and other exciting changes in YCF over
the coming year!
